DAYBREAK, 2025
What We Need is Here is a site-specific outdoor installation at Louisville Grows curated by Lindsey Cummins as part of the 2024 Curate Purchase Inspire Fellowship program through Louisville Visual Art, made possible by the generosity of artist and donor Clare Hirn.

The installation gathers six Louisville-based artists whose works invite shared rest and reflection in the natural world. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held on July 11, 2025.

Daybreak awning

Collaborative canopy piece Daybreak, by Jessica Chao and Claire Krueger stretches over Louisville Grows rooftop. Semi-transparent sailcloth dyed with natural plant materials has been embroidered with natural threads. Exposure to the elements will fade the natural dyes over time, allowing the synthetic stitched pattern that resists weathering to slowly emerge, leaving behind a transformation traced by light and time.

The sun shade is approx. 18' x 21' and suspends over Healthy House at Louisville Grows, a non profit at aiming to create a greener city.

Materials used for this installation include Phifertex vinyl mesh, naturally-dyed linen/hemp blend fabric, cotton, thread, acrylic paint, wood, metal hardware.

Special thanks to Brad Titizer and his team for installing the canopy.

Chángshòu mural

Approaching Louisville Grows, visitors are greeted by a mural by Jessica Chao of pink chrysanthemums in bloom.  Titled Chángshòu
(长寿), a Chinese word wishing prosperous longevity, it welcomes visitors with an enduring offering of joy and celebration.
