PONDER, 2026

Ponder is a botanical study rooted in adaptation, experimentation, and the intersection of industrial craft with organic form. Using cotton fabric and mesh stretched over wire armatures, I constructed larger-than-life lily pads that model a complete aquatic species. Bleach was sprayed onto the leaves to create variegated patterns, lending realistic texture to each form. Every pad offers a snapshot of the plant's life cycle—from decaying dark orange leaves to light green sprouts rising from the rhizome, symbolizing connectivity and resilience.

A single lotus flower invites future inhabitants while displaying the complexity of a mature lily pad system.

Glass beads catch light as oxygen bubbles, while warm overhead illumination transforms the installation into an immersive aquatic system. The absence of fauna invites the viewer to become the first inhabitant of a pristine ecosystem.

My process mirrors evolution itself through successive prototypes—each improving with stronger wires, embroidered veins, and the iconic split-leaf form. This work remains in progress, destined to grow with the introduction of macro-organisms—a meditation on how art, like nature, evolves through trial and time.
